Our final garden harvest here at the cafe has resulted in our vegetable bin filled almost to overflowing with firm green tomatoes. So, we are offering these fried green beauties as appetizers or as a side with any sandwich or meal while supplies last.
Come and get 'em. We take quarter inch thick slices of tomato and dip them into a rich batter that includes stone ground whole grain cornmeal. Then we pan fry 'em up to a golden brown using pure olive oil. Served crisp and hot. You may want "seconds."

One would 'virtually" lose a lot of weight hanging out here or maybe drown in a pool of saliva. MMMMmmmm, look at those mouth watering fried green tomatoes. I love tomatoes, so I can just imagine how those might taste.
Now THAT's what I'm talking about. Those are some serious green fried tomatoes, e.craig.
Well done.
I'm tellin' you boys, it's a serious treat. :-)
you know I tried to do this once...it didn't taste good.
I didn't fry them in cornmeal though.
ellie - I first dip each slice in milk, then flour. Next, they are dipped into beaten egg followed by a dip into the cornmeal. Gotta have that cornmeal. :-)
I believe I detect a slight bitterness in a green tomato, but find 'em irresistible when fried up to a golden brown.
